Brain Injury and Speech

28 Jul

Sharing some Information and Thoughts on Head and Brain Injury

I was reminded of this subject by a discussion I had with m (“the nurse”) yesterday. It reminded me of how I had to learn and practice talking in phrases(short) at first and very slowly for a long time all those years ago… and why she says I love reciting “short sharp” quotes so much nowdays…instead of constructing long sentences in my speech (like “normal” writers) and also having difficulties in telling/sharing stories verbally. See asphasia and dysphasia in Google searches). And that’s why writing suits me best!

Edwin Hubbel Chapin once said, “Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.” That is the definition of a legacy. Wouldn’t you love to do something that might strike a beautiful chord that will “vibrate in eternity”?

Yours very sincerely, Nelson Mandela

23 Jul

The centenary of one of the world’s most loved and highly regarded human rights leaders was marked by the only authorized collection of Nelson Mandela’s correspondence during the twenty-seven years he was held as a political prisoner in South Africa. The book contains letters, almost two thirds of which have never been seen before. Some are incredibly moving and personal, including to his children, his wife and his friends. He left behind a huge archive of his years in captivity, indelible ink to his anger, resilience and love for his country and his family. The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela is edited by South African journalist Sahm Venter, with a foreword from Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter Zamaswazi Dlamini-Mandela. They both speak with Kathryn Ryan.
